I'm not sure if this should be in pre-school or primary so apologies if I'm in the wrong place. DS is three and is just starting to ask what some letters are. He recognises G, which is the first letter of his name and I have been pronouncing it how you say (i.e. Ger) it rather than saying the actual letter (Gee) IYSWIM! I just wondered how letters are taught in schools so I am telling him the same, so he doesn't learn them all phonetically and them find at school they just say the actual name of the letter.
I think I have already confused us both because his first and second name both begin with G but one is pronounced as in goat and one as in giraffe, and he doesn't understand how they both can be different but the same letter!
