Do you pay staff to attend courses?

Hi

I don't mean one-off courses through the council, I mean 3 hours per week to attend an NVQ course in the evenings for one year?

Our last committee gave a vacancy to an unqualified friend without recruiting properly.

We're already underqualified according to the EYF so a member of staff is undertaking their NVQ in the evenings.

Do we pay for them to attend the sessions, or is the fact that the course is funded and that there will be a generous pay-rise on completion enough?

Thanks!

I would suggest you pay the fees but nto her time to do it.

Agree with LIZS, although not done it myself friends have done courses for work in the evenings and the company pays the fees but not the time. Some very generous companies pay travel and car parking if necessary.

my employers paid for my time to do the 3 hour introduction for nvq though was only about 6 sessions. rest was done on my own time.

it does benefit your setting in the long run

it does benefit the setting providing the pay rise is substantial ime. I went from unqualified to level 3 qualified and was only given £40 a month more. if the setting isn't prepared to pay their qualified staff a better wage then they will go looking elsewhere. I reckon thats why its so easy to find level 3 qualified jobs round here.

Hello everyone!

Thanks so much for our responses, it confirmed what I already thought.

Thanks again!
