Do you pay for pre-school sessions your DC miss?

Through illness or holiday, I mean. DS has just started pre-school and has missed one session as we were away -- I'm going to ask the manager about it tomorrow but I'm curious as to what the norm is.

in my experience-you book a place for a set number of days-if you don't take up the days due to holiday or illness-you still have to pay. They cannot let your place out for 1 day to another child and so they will lose out if you decide not to take your provision on a particular day. That is why you have to book the number of sesions that you want each week-so that they are able to budget.

Yes. They explained that can only accept a certain amount of dc and your dc's place can't be filled by another child if doesn't attend so you still pay. I think this is resonable.

feedthegoat · 29/03/2009 19:47

reasonable - my spelling/typing is getting worse.

We pay half the normal fee . But not after the Easter hols as ds starts his funded sessions

Ripeberry · 29/03/2009 19:48

Its the same as childminders, if your child is away due to illness or holiday then you still pay for that session.
The only time you would EVER get a refund is if the school had to close due to staff illness or snow.
Sorry about that but most people don't reallise that pre-schools are charities run by volunteer committees and if people start taking money off the fees they owe it can seriously mess up the cashflow.
You need to ask your pre-school for their fees policy and then you will have all the answers

VanillaPumpkin · 29/03/2009 19:56

Yes and pay the childminder too. If it is holiday booked in advance the CM charges me half but I think this is unusual. Pre-school has to be paid regardless as they couldn't fill that slot and need the regular money to make it all work.

All sessions are forfeited/still paid for if missed due to holiday/illness.

Exception I have found, with DD, is that if I inform them she will miss x y or z session due to hospital appointments, (she has SN) then they have offered to substitute those sessions.

Annner · 06/04/2009 22:19

Yes. We make an exception if the child is a hospital inpatient.

Hulababy · 06/04/2009 22:22

I would assume so. We aways did if DD was off from nursery due toholiday or sickness - full pay. After all the nursery still have to pay their staff full pay.

LIZS · 07/04/2009 09:11

Normally you would pay regardless. They can't fill the space at short notice and staffing, activities etc will be based on the regular number, but you may be able to get a discount if it is a holiday for which you give notice and they can offer the sessions to another child.

bubblagirl · 07/04/2009 09:24

when my ds was 2.6 we had to pay for any missed sessions when he was government funded obviously no but yes to any missed before then
