Calling Nursery teachers, would you read and take on board or ignore?

I am a Childminder and currently I am looking after a child of pre-school age who appears to have some "issues" (either behavioural or learning or both), some concerns have been raised by the nursery, myself and mum and nursery are now (hopefully) getting the ball rolling and getting the SENCo involved. What I'm wondering (I work very closely with mum and am trying to with school)is if I start to document any behavioural issues/problems that I observe in the child and pass them on to nursery/SENCo will they be of any use and used? or would they just be ignored?

I would read them and take note but I am very involved with any children that additional needs in the nursery where I work.

How about if you set up a diary to monitor behaviour and ask the nursery and parents to contribute. That way you can look for patterns and flashpoints and you build up a very good picture of a child that way.

i am doing one at the moment for a little boy and his mum writes in it too.

Please do it!!!! If this develops into a fight for resources and/or a statement the SENCo will be grateful for all the evidence she can get her hands on. It is always useful to have evidence of behaviour in different environments. Also you may come across a strategy which helps this little one and can be adapted for use at nursery.

We would be very pleased to have you do this.
Concerns would def be noted and we would probably try to meet with you and chat about how we could help whilst waiting for additional support.

I know our preschool staff would be only too delighted to have such a proactive CM on their side. In fact, I've just chosen a CM for ds2 and a major factor in the choice was that the preschool staff commented on how much she went out of her way to liaise with them, share information etc.

Thankyou for your comments, I have started to document any problems I have and will let nursery know tomorrow.
