What does FULLY TOILET TRAINED mean exactly?

DS is 2.11 and is supposed to be going to a nursery that is part of a school. The nursery is from age 3 so there are no younger children there at all.

I had a letter saying it is important that he is fully toilet trained.

At the moment, DS can reliably wee/poo in the potty and hardly has accidents, although he can have times where he is so ingrossed in what he is doing that he will refuse to leave it, preferring to wet himself! He only ever wears a nappy to go to bed in. He has been trained for 4-5 months. During this time, he has not wanted to go on our toilet and I think this is due to him finding it very big (even refused with one of those plastic things on the top of the seat). We have just bought one of those toilet seats where the child bit is integral - you just fold down the child seat as you do the adult seat and we're going to fit it today.

He cannot wipe his bum. He will stand there and say "WIPE IT!" to me.

I am a bit worried they won't take him for the summer term. I really want him to go because he's been with me permanently since birth and he really would enjoy being with other children for these sessions. He does see other children, but not that much.

Unless it is a private school, they do not have the right to stipulate that children are fully toilet trained.

I would send him in in pants as normal, send spare clothes and let them deal with the consequences - you deal with three year olds, you have to deal with the whole package IMHO.

I would say he's potty trained, and that he will be fine in nursery.

The only thing is that he doesn't wipe himself clean, but that's quite a hard skill to learn, and I would gently encourage this without making it an issue, because IMO it's not an issue.

Right well I've fitted the toilet seat and he weed on the toilet so a major step forward there after months of refusal with the plastic insert. Bum wiping a bit of a problem - I have read loads of threads on MN where much older children struggle with bum wiping - like you say coldtits these children are 3 years old!!

From what you say in your post, I would say that your child is potty trained enough...

From all accounts, perhaps the toilets at the nursery will be more suitable to children and seeing others will spur him on and he will want to copy their habits ... (good and bad!!)
