My DS doesn't like going to nursery...

My son is a late summer baby, reserved until you get to know him and 3.5 months. He is a happy little kid, very talkative and likes doing all the usual things, and my first child, we have a second son too, aged 18 months.

He started nursery in September, 5 mornings a week and 2 days til 3pm. The impression I get from his ( very nice) teachers is that he is ultra well behaved and very quiet, but starting to 'come out of himself' more and enjoy it. However, he still looks pretty miserable when I or his dad drop him and cries sometimes. He has got a 'best friend' - (who he known since birth as this boy's mum and I did NCT together.) and loves playing with him, and I gather from the teachers with other kids too.

The problem is that I feel terrible because he keeps on saying to me that he hates nursery and doesn't want to go and why does he have to. He does have to go to nursery clearly, but has anyone got any ideas about what I could do? Home life is good - no obvious things that could be upsetting him. I think he just prefers being at home. Thanks for any thoughts.

we went through nursery with DS2 yelling, kicking and screaming before we left the house and then when we had to leave him (he went 5 mornings and he is a January baby). It was horrible and I hated every minute. He would say in bed at night, I'm not going tomorrow etc.
But, he is now in reception (since Sept, full days) and apart froma little wobble ont he first day, he loves it now, he won't accept that being poorly means he has to stay home and weekends and holidays are tedious
So I would say, stick with it, and make the most of the time at home too.
