I don't want my DS to wear plimsolls

Do other Nursery Schools insist on children wearing plimsolls all day in school and nursery? I'm not pleased about my DS having to wear them, mainly due to the poor fitting and no width fitting options. I think it's madness to insist children are forced to wear poorly fitting shoes (especially when I pay good money to make sure he has good quality shoes that fit him perfectly)! As far as I can see, there is no real justification for this as they are taken outdoors in them too. I want to make a fuss about this - but worried that I'll be marked as 'one of those mothers!'
I've found some articles on the net saying that they offer no support to the foot, so shouldn't be worn for long periods of time; but wondered what anyone else thought.

I could understand if it was an indoor/outdoor thing but not if they wear them outside too.

I bet it's to do with ease of getting shoes on and off. No laces means quicker turn around.

My DS has to wear plimsolls at his playgroup because it's in the church hall and the church don't want their floor marked.
But I don't mind him in plimsolls, I'd rather he trashed his £6 plimmies than his £30 shoes.

My DS wears slipper socks (i.e. thick socks with rubber sole) all day at nursery, as does another girl there. Maybe that would be an acceptable alternative? I got them from Jojomaman.

I managed to get my son excused wearing both plimsols at nursery and at primary school. When he was at nursery he wore Doodles and at school he wore black trainers. My son has a history of orthopedic problems and he needs properly fitting shoes. We had backing from our community paediatrian.

It is absolutely impossible for a state primary school to force children to wear plimsols.

The problem with plimsols is that if they are too small they can mishape the feet.

If your children have average size feet you can probably feel yourself to see if they fit.

Many of us do not have chidren with average feet.

I noticed that some children on Sports Day were wearing Geox velcro shoes. When I looked them up they are the new alternative to plimsolls. Cute pink colour for girls. Give great support.
