Just curious about kids going to pre-school full time

My nephew is the same age as my dd (3.9 yrs) and will be attending pre-school full time from the new year. This is one that is attached to a state school. My dd goes to a private pre-school and will continue with 12 1/2 hours. I wouldn't want dd to go full time but I was just wondering what the advantage is? Is it just to get them used to full time school?

I suspect the advantage is is that it means parents can go out to work - pre-school attached to a school is free, isn't it? So people who would have struggled paying for childcare can then go out to work. I don't think there are educational "advantages" per se. It will suit some children a lot, and others not so much.

DD will be (assuming you gets a place) attending a local pre-school 9-3 from next September. She'll be 3.7 yrs.

I'm a working parent so at the moment she attends a day nursery 8-1pm. Sending her to the pre-school means that she has the same hours as DS (at the school the pre-school is attached to) and will be able to make friends with children that will go onto the school.

It's not free incidentally. Most children do the standard 2.5 hour sesssions either morning or afternoon - which are free. We have to pay for the extra hours on top.

Thanks. I didn't think about the childcare aspect.
