Taking them out of preschool for a holiday

dd is starting at an independent preschool attached to our local private school in September - we're looking at skiing holidays for next year and having to take a sharp intake of breath when we look at the costs. We've always gone when it's ultra-cheap (first half of Jan usually) before but half term is astronomically expensive, obviously. I was wondering whether we should just book it for a week during term time - but I've got no experience of preschool and no idea if this would be a problem. Does anyone know what the policy on this usually is? I'll obviously check with the school when she starts, but just wanted to start planning possible options now.

I think they're more lenient at pre-school as schooling is not compulsory at that age. OTOH they may be very precious about this sort of thing. I dunno, just guessing because you said it's a private pre-school.

If you are paying and it's preschool, you can do what you want... no matter what the school says.... and really, missing a week won't do anyone any harm unless they need extra help (in the which case you'll know this anyway)

I suppose it's them being precious that worries me. I know it won't do dd any harm, she'll be fine. But don't want to get off on the wrong foot...

ime of working in a private school they are more relaxed about you taking children out of school in term time than state schools are.

I took my DS out of pre-prep 3 times last year....head was fab about all of them and went to great lengths to justify them to me (Birthday Party in Scotland? Marvellous - he'll get to appreciate journeys and be socialising in unfamiliar territory"..."Accompany you on business trip because you will be away a week? Ohhhh, lovely - he will pick up the nuances of a foreign country and will start to see you as a role model outside of the normal mummy context"..."Cheapo holiday? super - you'll have lots of time to relax with him and have fun, and he'll have plenty to talk about in show & tell") It got to the stage I started feeling guilty for not taking him out...

Lol squiffy...that would be great. Skiing holiday - lots of fresh air and exercise and will do wonders for her balance and co-ordination...
