what have I done? I only had a packet of crisps to eat yesterday and after 2 glasses of wine at the last committee meeting of the school year I volunteered.

The person who proposed the fayre said she was'nt confident enough so I said 'I'll do it' with the chairs support and every one elses of course.

I have just drafted a letter for parents which is going out before the summer - as we are focusing on craft items for sale, and I have put the spec together.

But Oh my goodness, what am I letting myself in for?

DD goes to reception in Sept and DS wont start at pre-school for another year - so i dont even have a child there!!!

Am eating properly today cant risk making such an offer again. Just had bad day yesterday as DC's had loads going on and I was really busy at work preapring for boss to come back of leave today.

Aggggghhhhhhhhhhhh

i wouldnt have thought you would be allowe to do it if youdont have a child there.

I am on the committee and I have a child who will be attending the following year.

I don't think it's a case of "not allowed to do it if you don't have a child there", stitch - it's more a case of "OMG we have a volunteer, quick, grab her and get her to sign in blood before she sees sense." Pre-school committees (ime) are always desperate for help!

Yes, much delegation - but ultimately, you need to make sure that things are being done. Don't be disheartened if you don't get much response to your pre-summer letter - most parents will think "that's ages away..."

Oh, and you are letting yourself in for a lot of hard work, frustration and being totally knackered at the end of it - but also a great sense of satisfaction if it goes off well

Oh and the moral of the story is...

Don't Drink on an Empty Stomach at Committee Meetings

(which I will bear in mind at the primary school one - in the pub - I am going to tonight as I know they are after someone to co-ordinate the planned ceilidh in October).

Lowfat · 03/07/2008 11:37

yes quite Soren, in fact I would have a couple of doghnuts wuth my lunch just to be safe.

Followed by a chucnky doorstep ham and coleslaw sandwich for teabreak at 3pm

But that's just me

My committee posion is health and safety so is new ground for me by the way!!

Eek, this thread was very timely. Chair is stepping down (new job) and wants someone on the Committee to step into the role. Even after two glasses of wine I remembered this thread and said "NO!"

Ripeberry · 05/07/2008 13:26

They suck you into a black void called the committee and there is no escape and your children not being there is no defense...hahahaha (evil laughter)
But seriously, i've been on our committee for the last 4yrs and was on it for over 1yr when i did not having any children in it.
This year our playleader is leaving and MOST of the committee, including the Chair, Treasurer, Secretary, Fundraiser , i'm just left over as the Grants co-ordinator!
We will have to organise an AGM asap and we are in the process of finding a new playleader and have found a FAB lady who has a degree in primary schooling and is doing this for the love of children not as a job! (she will be paid of course).
But and the big BUT is will any of the parents actually turn up??
They haven't for the last 3 yrs! And this next lot seem to all have excuses.
