Is my husband entitled to these? he is a secondary school teacher, brent council.
Our toddler will be 3 in october and i wanted to try him in a nursery for 2 afternoons per week.
The cost is £21 per session, and the lady said i would get £7 off the term after my child's 3rd bday, but that I could get more because my husband is a teacher

Ive not heard about it - any ideas?
thankyou

There are two separate things going on here.

  1. All children are entitled to funding for nursery etc from the start of the term that begins after they turn 3. So he will be eligible from January. This funding does not depend on where/if their parents work. The funding level varies but is usually £7/8 per session.

  2. Childcare vouchers are something that some people can get through their employers. Your DH should be able to get them. In effect what happens is he pays money into a pot before his tax is deducted and this money can then be used to pay the nursery directly. The fact that he does not ever get taxed on this money will save you money.

hope this makes sense

I should have said that you can (and should) use both these options at the same and that option 1 will be organised by the nursery but for option 2 you DH needs to speak to his employer.

We get childcare vouchers through my employer ( a local authority) and my DH's employer, so we get over one weeks childcare 'free' a month - which is great! Ask your Dh to enquire with payroll or HR about the childcare vouvhers - they take the money off your base salary as a 'salary sacrifice' and you dont pay any tax and NI on them - max value is £241 a month (I think). They are a great idea!!

So in general terms, your weekly nursery bill of £42 would cost you about £20 a week - bargain!!

My company uses Busy Bees (www.busybeesvouchers.co.uk) and Dh uses care-4 (www.care-4.co.uk) - they both have websites and this explains how they work!
