She has never had a problem with biting at all but she's only started since she went to school today could this just be an issue with school

I know I will get flamed for this, but here goes.....
About 23 years ago DS started biting, despite being told off, naughty step, it didn't stop it; so I bit him and asked him if it really hurts when someone bites you? He said yes, so I told him that is what he is doing to others, and it's really, really nasty. He never ever did it again.

Sunshineclouds11 · 12/09/2025 20:59

It's her first day?

KidsDoBetter · 12/09/2025 21:00

Eh? It’s an issue if one day?

Newishmom · 12/09/2025 21:00

I'd rather not do that I think she might be on the spectrum and she's really sensitive that kind of thing so I'm not too sure if that would be the right thing but well done on your parenting never be scared for others think @Hadalifeonce

I mean a kind of want to make sure this is addressed before becomes setting and I get sued or something @KidsDoBetter@Sunshineclouds11

Children bite.
she may have seen another child do it etc all you can do right now is tell her it's not nice and mouths are for eating and drinking.

has she done it to another child or yourself since being home?

Permittedperson · 12/09/2025 21:07

Watch her like a hawk. Do lots of mouths aren’t for biting. And a firm NO and remove her when you see her going in for a gnash.

Newishmom · 12/09/2025 21:07

No biting since getting home

DD went thru a biting stage, she was a bit of a sensory seeker. I told her that we didn't bite people but we did bite carrots, and used to have some on hand for her to chomp on.

Newishmom · 12/09/2025 21:10

@RhinestoneCowgirl I I am so sorry I'm kind of new to this what is a sensory seeker

@Permittedperson I've been watching her and there hasn't been another attempt since getting home

Seeking particular sensory experiences, so might be something like enjoying the feeling of a particular fabric, or in this case enjoying the feeling of biting something. DD is 16 now and still loves crunchy foods (inc carrots!)

Newishmom · 12/09/2025 21:18

Could this be why refuses to wear someting unless the tag is off and biteing her plushies @RhinestoneCowgirl

DD went through a slightly bitey phase when her back molars came in. We used the book “teeth are not for biting”, as recommended by her nursery. I asked them which resources they used to ensure consistency - can you chat to the preschool about it?

Could be? Or could be teeth issues as @QueenOfWeeds suggested. Speaking to preschool is a good idea

Newishmom · 12/09/2025 21:32

I mean her molar teeth are coming in and I'm going to talk to the preschool on Monday as we didn't have much time because the workers wanted to get out as soon as possible @QueenOfWeeds@RhinestoneCowgirl

That’s a confusing title for a book when teeth are actually, primarily, for biting.

QueenOfWeeds · 13/09/2025 19:43

@GloryFades 😂it is, and I had actually seen it on Amazon and ignored it for that very reason. But it did seem to work for DD, and the first page is something like “teeth are for eating” so they obviously knew they needed to cover it.

It’s part of a series including the depressingly titled “screen time is not forever”.
