Hope you don't mind me asking you for a bit of advice with this, Ive got dragged into sitting on the committee at my son's pre-school with the main aim of organising some fun-raising events throughout the year to boost funds for the school etc... They have the usual Summer and Christmas Fairs organised but it was more of what else could be done.

I was wondering if you had any pointers for me....also how and what angle to take if I were to contact some local businesses.

thanks

Our school organised a night with a local Pizza restaurant, if you went there for dinner, they donated a percentage to the school.

our very small school did a jute bag fundraiser, bought bags for about a pound printed a eco symbol on the front and sold them for £2.50, sold absolutely shedloads, they are great as shopping bags, swimming bags, toy storage.

I would 2nd the bag2school scheme. It's very good.

Our school has just had a fashion show organised by www.travellingtrends.com. It took very little effort to run and just needed a few volunteer models. We had a really good night and raised in the region of £600 (small infant school).

I've just checked out the bag2school thing- it may sound like a good idea, but they wil be putting local garment workers/cobblers etc out of work in developing countries. Now if they were to recycle the stuff for use here, that would be different.
Home made cakes always go down very well, IME- I also know of a local prmary who had film nights, I think you may need a licence but there may be a way round that, Nearly new sales raise lots of money for NCT and are easy to do esp if you have premises you can use. Also garden sales- if parents include a few keen gardeners, people bring cuttings/seedlings which they donate, also make money at the event selling teas cakes etc. Good luck!
