Ds is currently at the local montessori two days a week as I work part time.

I'd like to get him into the local state nursery and have an appointment to register him.

I was kinda hoping childcare costs could go down once at state nursery but I guess not - I didn't realise the hours were so short and you get offered sessions and I know this nursery can't give more hours. How you do you cope in the holidays?

So, I thought - OK I'll take what I'm given and that will mean perhaps continuing one day at the montessori but they have a minimum weekly attendance of two days.

So, I thought - OK - I'll use the vouchers - but I hear they may be scrapped.

How did other working mums manage all this hassle. I've got a little while to go but I need to plan ahead.

I've been told a place at the state nursery is pretty much guaranteed as I live in the same street - dunno if this is true - but I'm told this is a feeder into the local primary school (a good one).

Blimey - all so confusing. Can anyone shed any light? I'm wondering when the time comes I'd be better off jacking in my job...

Can't you leave him where he is? Or did you want to save yourself some money.

Problem is if nursery is only half day and you have to pay a childminder for the other half day your probably not gonna save much money at all.

You can still apply for a place at the state nursery without giving up your Montessori place. The Montessori place won't know and you can postpone making your final decision right up until the day your child is due to start nursery.

If I were you I would leave him where he is, apply for and accept a nursery place, look around for a good childminder in the meantime and then leave making a final decision until the last moment, giving you lots of time to consider all the options.

Hope that helps.
