Fun and Educational YouTube Channels for Toddlers?

Hi everyone,
I’m looking for fun and educational YouTube channels for my 3-year-old toddler that include songs, dancing, and interactive learning activities. She loves channels like Ms. Rachel, Sashaboo, and Blippi. Any suggestions? Thanks so much!

I was going to suggest Ms Rachel. Think you've got enough there surely?

Weareoverhere · 16/11/2024 09:18

Mine loves speedi didi. It’s annoying and American but actually quite educational.

Needmorelego · 16/11/2024 09:20

Just get them to watch programmes on Cbeebies.

Mishmashs · 16/11/2024 09:21

I’m not sure youtube is the best for young children? There is a lot of good stuff on iPlayer for kids, CBeebies or cbbc.

Weareoverhere · 16/11/2024 09:22

CBeebies is a bit hit and miss. The age range is quite wide and not all the programmes are good quality or interesting to all children.

Needmorelego · 16/11/2024 09:23

@Weareoverhere if you watch Cbeebies via iPlayer you just pick the age appropriate programmes.

Weareoverhere · 16/11/2024 09:34

Well yes but then they are potentially just watching the same thing over and over, they get bored, you get disturbed (because realistically I think most of us use the TV for those times when you really have to do the housework or cook the dinner.)

Also if you have two children of different ages it doesn’t work.

Both mine love tractor ted actually although it’s not YouTube.

I am trying to think of CBeebies programmes they both like. Older child (4) likes Bing and will watch Bluey sometimes. My youngest is just one and likes Teletubbies and Moon and Me which is too babyish for the older one! Besides she wouldn’t just watch it for a while. I don’t mind CBeebies but I think it’s as I say hit and miss. There are some great programmes but not so much for under 3s.

That's because TV programmes aren't supposed to be used for parenting respite as much you're obviously hoping. Get them colouring, doing playdoh, dancing, making race tracks, "reading" to each other, planting seedlings etc on the kitchen table. Have special activities just for those times.

Weareoverhere · 16/11/2024 10:16

No, we’re good watching TV, thanks.

LeafHunter · 16/11/2024 10:17

My son loves gecko explains/gecko explores and tractor ted.

Isthisexpected · 16/11/2024 10:18

Under twos shouldn't even be exposed to it in the background let alone plonked in front of it. Some seriously warped parenting ideas here.

Weareoverhere · 16/11/2024 10:25

Just keep yours screen free then.

Tadpolecat · 16/11/2024 10:29

My son (nearly 3) has learnt a lot from TV, so I believe it has its place. Yes, don't plonk them in front of it 24/7 (obviously..)
My son has enjoyed, that hasn't been mentioned:
Learn too (a good one as it isn't overstimulating like some of the others mentioned) but is American

I have found a new channel called Rainbow TV that is very entertaining for toddlers

check out pipsqueak piano on youtube. Dance songs mixed with preschool piano lessons.

AwfulTower · 01/04/2025 17:50

There’s nursery rhymes on BBC teach.

I would stick to slower programmes like play school. My own dc watched the Australian one.

A speech therapist once told me that if you are going to let a young child watch TV, then it should be real people rather than cartoons or puppets.

tonyhawks23 · 01/04/2025 18:01

Cebebeeies/CBBC is brilliant, you tube is terrible.surelybboth age like bluey/topsy and Tim/waffle/number blocks etc.just play it as is just like we used to when kids and then they get a range of shows directly aimed for entertaining kids as we cook tea.they are much better than you tube.

Edulor · 06/04/2025 08:56

The judgemental tone on this forum is just awful. If parents need ten minutes to put washing on or make a sandwich for their toddler, there is absolutely nothing wrong with putting on an educational programme!

YouTube Kids has some fantastic shows: Alphablocks, Numberblocks, Ms Rachel… nursery rhymes… the list goes on.

I am a parent and a teacher and see nothing wrong with short amounts of TV, as it can help children to learn and allows parents to be at their best.

As a family, we love watching a bedtime story together whilst having dinner, before reading one upstairs before bed.

Tadpolecat · 06/04/2025 18:40

People say how bad YouTube is but right now (after a fun day being with family, away from screens..) my 3 year old is learning the names of Prehistoric Sharks. It isn't all bad.

This one is aimed to teach kids how to think about real estate and construction..letters and a tought process to get kids to think about the world around them:

Miniscule is a lovely French made series showing insects getting up to funny pranks( hard to describe). Check it out.
