Help with toilet

DD is 4 in a month, just started preschool. She came home today and told me she'd asked for help at the toilet and the teacher had said for her to do it by herself. Is this the norm? Surely there are risk for infections?

My son's preschool will help them wipe it they ask for help but won't come with them unless asked.

encouraging them to try for themselves at that age is normal. Adult should just check they are clean

My son is 3 and does not get help at preschool

It’s normal for them to be told to do most of it by themselves. A practitioner wouldn’t be doing their job well if they did everything for a child instead of teaching them to do it independently.

Problem is she came home and needed a shower... not sure if I should speak to them about it or not

I definitely would. Fine to encourage her to try, but if she's that messy she's going to get really sore.

It’s normal for preschools to be hands off. It’s also normal however for 3-4YOs to still need help. We had a similar incident. Talked to the school and agreed that we send flushable wipes to make it easier for him, he tells someone when he needs a poo, they check him after and help of necessary. Hasn’t happened again touch wood.
