2nd year of preschool

DD (3) has gone to a private nursery since she was 11 months old. It's a good nursery (by my judgement and Ofsted's) and she has alway been happy and confident there, has a lovely group of friends and likes the carers. She moved up to the preschool room in the summer. They have a lot of fun there, painting, singing, hunting for bugs in the mud etc. Phonics once a week, no maths that I can make out. It can be quite chaotic, although maybe that's inevitable in a room filled with 20+ three year olds 😵‍💫

Her birthday is 1st September so she'll be doing 2 years of pre school. Most of her friends are August/July born so will go to school before her and I'm worried she'll be sad when they leave (currently seeing it in a few of the kids who were born in autumn 2019 and their friends have gone off to school 😔). Also, there are quite a few school nurseries around here which are more structured, more emphasis on phonics amd maths etc, and I wonder if that would be good for her? On the negative side, if she went to a school nursery we'd obviously have to cover holidays which we don't at the moment.

Should I move her to a school nursery or not? Any thoughts would be appreciated!

Personally, I would be pleased that it wasn't so structured. At this stage they are learning so much through play and exploring, it's not to be underestimated. For me the most important thing is she sees books as fun.

Thanks, that's a fair point.

She definitely sees books as fun, although I suspect that's mostly from home. I've witnessed them reading stories at nursery and tbh the background noise and slightly lacklustre oratory from the carers didn't make it seem hugely engaging.

She’s happy there - why would you move her. Nursery is for fun - it’s not meant to replicate a school setting.

@Parker231 she's happy now, I'm not sure she will be once the majority of her friends leave and she's stuck doing the same things in the same room with a bunch of younger kids for another year.. don't get me wrong, she might still be happy, but I just don't know 🤷
