Uniformed nursery sucks!!

For us anyway..... my DD started nursery this term. It's been great to give me an extra break and she absolutely loves going, it's a great school! BUT, I've been given afternoon sessions and it's such a pain!

We get up in the morning to put on normal clothes, go about our day with errands etc etc, but we have to be home around 11 - 11.30 to allow enough time for a small lunch and to change into uniform. Then once she's finished nursery at 3 I then have to bring her home and change AGAIN so she doesn't destroy her uniform over dinner/whatever other random stuff she tends to smother overself!

I know I'm lucky to have the time off, I'm honestly just ranting. I feel like I spend a good hour of my day dressing her into/out of clothes. Luckily my DD doesn't care and she loves wearing uniform 'like the big girls'. I can't imagine what it's like for the parents of those who don't like wearing it!

I've never understood the point of school uniform and always rebelled against it growing up, but I honestly can't see the point of putting 3 year olds in uniform for 2.5 hours of their day.

Sorry I don't understand why you put on normal clothes before nursery?

Just dress her in nursery clothes when she gets up.

Hollyhead · 30/09/2023 18:31

just ignore it except the jumper which is a quick swap, and see what happens!

PuttingDownRoots · 30/09/2023 18:33

Having the afternoon session does add extra stress to the day. I liked the uniform as only the school stuff got paint etc over it so her normal clothes didn't get stains.

What is the uniform?

ReeseWitherfork · 30/09/2023 18:34

My eldest has just started reception and so I have learnt the hell of laundering uniforms. Both washing them in time and keeping track of them. He’s filthy every day, I can’t even imagine how annoyed I’d be remembering how additionally filthy he got at nursery. Sympathy from me!

Mrsjayy · 30/09/2023 18:38

Is it just a sweat/polo shirt can you not just change the top half or put the nursery clothes on in the morning, is the uniform compulsory or just an option ? You are being a bit whiny about it I guess it isn't that big of a deal.

Mrsjayy · 30/09/2023 18:39

If ths nursery clothes are dirty can you just leave them on till bedtime.

reallyworriedjobhunter · 30/09/2023 18:41

Can you request a morning session instead?

Fleabane · 30/09/2023 18:44

Isn't it just a jumper?

Spaghettihulahoops · 30/09/2023 18:45

Just dress her in the uniform all day. I doubt it is more expensive than her other clothes. Why all this stress about keeping it just for nursery?

Hungrycaterpillarsmummy · 30/09/2023 18:45

Why wouldn't you just put her in nursery uniform from the start of the day?!

Cosmod · 30/09/2023 18:56

Because we are super busy! We walk the dog (Hella muddy), swimming, shop trips. She refuses to wear bibs and will cover herself in food within a few hours of putting on uniform.

Hers are strict! It's got to be white logo'd polo, logo'd jumper. Grey trousers/grey skirt and tights. No socks. And plain black school shoes.

Cosmod · 30/09/2023 18:59

I mean for 2 white logo'd polo shirts and 2 logo'd jumpers (they're not allowed to wear standard plain ones, I've already tried!) It cost me almost £60....

I put morning as my preference but didn't get it unfortunately

That's what I tend to do if they're already dirty ...but the school has a huge outdoor area and she almost always comes home covered in mud

They cannot enforce uniform in preschool. Send her in whatever you like

moggle · 30/09/2023 19:04

That’s nuts, is it attached to a private school? Though even the private schools near us tend to be joggers rather than proper uniform bottoms, and trainers not shoes.

Goreg · 30/09/2023 19:05

They don't have to wear uniform in nursery. I mean, it's not like secondary where they'll refuse to let them in without it.

Just take her in normal clothes. Sell the uniform and get her something nice for Xmas with the money.

VivaLaVolvo · 30/09/2023 19:07

Is it a prep school?

If it is a state school then it is illegal.

Parker231 · 30/09/2023 19:11

Send her in her oldest clothes - everything gets very dirty and stained in nursery.

Mrsjayy · 30/09/2023 19:12

You lost me at skirt and tights what an absolute faff. I'd put her In her night clothes when she gets in .

Hollyhead · 30/09/2023 19:23

Sounds crap and way too formal I’d pull her out and find a nice playgroup or pre school attached to where she’ll go to school.

ImAMinion · 30/09/2023 19:25

Blimey - my school has a nursery uniform buts it’s a tracksuit and polo - and so is reception! That’s nuts for 3 year olds

RedAndWhiteCarnations · 30/09/2023 19:33

For nursery, my dcs just went in normal clothes tbh…

Then uniform when they started reception.

Otherwise, uniform for the whole day?

FawltyTower · 30/09/2023 19:33

Honestly, I'd try and be less busy.

Have two or three days a week where you don't go anywhere in the morning and just let her stay in pj's.
