Hey there!

My DC is about to finish preschool. They've had an amazing experience with their four fabulous teachers.

Now, here's the thing: I moved to the UK (London) as an adult, and I'm not sure about the local customs when it comes to showing appreciation. So, I wanted to ask if it's customary to give something to teachers at this stage. I definitely want to give each teacher a thank you card with a personal message, but I'd also love to include a small token of our gratitude.

What do you think would be appreciated and make a nice gesture? I'd love to hear your suggestions and ideas. Thanks in advance for your help!

As a previous reception teacher and now a primary teacher, we never expect gifts. We happily do our jobs for the children.

If you wanted to do something nice then a home made card or a drawing is much more sentimental to us than gifts.

I've given a box of chocolates and card for the room staff and a box of chocolates and a card for the office staff at nursery as my daughter moved rooms. I also gave a box of chocolates and a card to her key worker that she was particularly close to. I'll do the same when she leaves in September.

This year we are giving chocolates and tea gift sets, last year there were personalized photo planners (we designed them by ourselves using class photos), gift cards are also a way to go. I absolutely agree about hand written cards, though, they are always nice and heartwarming.
