Hi mums,

I am looking to start applying for prep schools for my son : coed and all boys both. in hampstead and west hampstead area and St. John's wood.

I know Mulberry ranks first.

Please help me rank based on your experience prep schools in this areas.
How would you rank:
Hampstead hill
Devonshire
Abercorn
St. John's wood pre prep
UCS already applied for 4+

We are open for 3+ as well if the school has that entry point .

Any other good school I missed !!!!
I know Arnold house is oversubscribed so dropping that. Even the hall.

Please help.

Thanks

Out of those I prefer HHS and UCS. It really depends on the child. I've heard less than stellar things abkut SJWPP but I could just be hearsay. I have no knowledge of Abercorn really. DH is also nice and good pastorally though academically perhaps a little more easy going than HHS, UCS or MH. My first choice of those would be HHS.

@preppingforlife hey thanks .. actually even that was my second choice after mulberry after all the info I collected. Thanks againnn

First glance I thought you were looking for a rank prep school 😂 my school was pretty rank but it definitely wasn't a prep school 🤣

I've been talking up Abercorn recently as my DD asked us to visit some prep-senior schools to minimise moving kids as they get older. Abercorn will go from nursery to Year 9 from Sept, with a view of expanding to A levels over the next. few years. Its a lovely school, impressive premises, the new senior school (just off Marylebone High School) boasting a theatre. The schools has a love for the arts, but academics seem strong too on recent Ofsted reports.

@johnwill1 hey
Yeah I know about abercorn. It has very good ratings. A very good of mine sent her son here but she didn't have very good experience. She moved back to her home country for a year as her son couldn't adjust well. Don't know if it was son or teachers. But I have it as a back up plan. Thanks a ton for your reply

You're very welcome. I'm sorry to hear about your friend's experience. I know Abercorn has a rep as very friendly and nurturing, and we liked the parental involvement in the Friends of the school side which organises socials for parents and students who have relocated to London. I hope you friend's son is thriving now!
