Baby group - Eventbrite taking big cut: alternatives?

Hello

We have a little baby and toddler group that is run by volunteers in a church hall.

We want to charge a £2 admission fee to cover the cost of running the group, and for it to be online booking only (so none of the volunteers have the hassle of handling money).

We are using Eventbrite but they take 74p out of every £2 ticket.

Does anyone know of cheaper alternatives? Or if I have set up the Eventbrite wrong?

All advice appreciated!

Get a card machine from izettle/SumUp etc and people pay on the door in cash?
nominate one of you to take payment via friends and family paypal?

I have no idea about how it works, but I have just purchased tickets for a school event via Ticket Source. I didn't have to pay any booking fee - I don't know what the arrangement is for the school. I was surprised as I recently bought tickets for a small church concert and was really surprised at how much the booking fee was. Might be worth investigating.

Thanks @passport123 Can I ask if you have experience of either of those? Is the transaction fee the only cost?

We have to link payments to the parish account so can’t use PayPal, unfortunately. Are izettle and sumup PayPal dependent, or could I link them to the Parish account?

I think SumUp takes 1-2% but crucially it's a %age not a set amount, so doesn't impact more on lots of small transactions. Yes you could link to parish account. My daughter's PTA uses izettle and it seems very easy

@Seeline Thank you. I have just taken a look at Ticket Source. I think your school will have chosen to absorb the admin cost (which is what I do with my group). Even so, it does look as though Ticket Source would only take 30p per ticket, which is preferable to the 74p I am current paying to Eventbrite!

Is it a fixed charge or percentage? If a fixed charge, could you sell a ticket for a block such as half a term or a month?

Thanks @passport123 . It didn’t occur to me that we could do it that way. Can you manage online bookings this way, or would I still need Eventbrite to do that?

@User12398712 I think it is a percentage, unfortunately.

I don't know, sorry

Can I give this a bump for the evening crowd? What do other people do with groups like this?

I do book keeping for a few charities and there is a charity version of PayPal that several use. You choose when to transfer the money to your bank account. We have £2 monthly subscriptions set up and the fee is usually 27p per transaction.

No idea how it works but I book 1 group by bookwhen.com

Tiepose · 20/06/2022 19:15

Thank you @LittleMissA and @Cuwins . Both those would be cheaper than what we are doing now.
