bossybritches,

You don't have to have all 5 sessions (DTDs only had 4)

Also, this term is a short term for most LEAs because easter is early. I think we have a 15weeker for summer though [gulp]

Sorry didn't clarify SMS I meant to claim all 5 sessions you have to do.....as above.

Some Mums think they can claim all 5 sessions even if their child only does 2 days.

It's 38 weeks per year whichever way they cut it up. fine for settings attached to schools/nursery schools but daycare nurseries which cater for working parents are open much longer so have to adjust accordingly!

and eextract from this website is below and confirms that the grant must provide a minimum of 2.5hrs. You cannot be charged extra just because the grant does not cover what the nursery would normally charge for 2.5hrs.

It als echos what BB says, if the nursery fees are less than the grant they keep any excess.

The NEF is a fixed amount paid for every session a setting provides. For this amount the setting must provide a free 2½ hour session. The setting must provide the sessions free and must not charge and then reimburse the fund. If the cost of a session is less than the NEF amount paid, the setting may keep the extra money and use it to improve the provision for 3 and 4 year olds. If the cost of the session is more than the NEF amount paid, the NEF session must still be free and the remaining charges adjusted accordingly.

another article saying they are not allowed to expect you to top up the grants for the 2 1/2 session, but dated 2006 so may have changed.

I think too Srek that some authorities are better than others at handing over the whoole amount from the govt. Ours is over 38 per session but I know some nurseries that only get £6.25!!

If a nursery /pre-school normally charges £5 ph say, then £8 for 2.5 hours is going to leave them very short. This is why it's hitting those in the south more because they are nearer that than those of us further north.

I'd love to do without the hassle & opt out of vouchers & OFSTED completely (except for the care inspections)but why should I jeopordize my reputation & deprive my clients of their entitlement to help!
