OK this is probably totally stupid question, but I'm trying to find the best primary schools in northumberland. I'm hoping to move there and want to find out where would be best fot lo to attend school. Does anyone know of any websites etc. I cant seem to find any league tables for the primary schools.

Please help this very confused mummy!!

Oh, in an ideal world, primary schools wouldn't have league tables.

C'mon! Crack open some wine and enjoy your NYE

you will find the league tables on the bbc website. (sorry can't post a link). Once you have a name of a school, you should be able to get a copy of the Ofsted report.

Try the BBC website news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/education/default.stm and Up my street. If it is a infant/junior school system only Junior ones (KS2) will be rated.

Take no notice of league tables-they tell you nothing about the school. The only way is to visit and ask questions. Also look at the OFSTED report at www.ofsted.gov.uk

There is a whole discussion as to what the "best" primary school is. There is a high probability that the school that I would view as "best" isn't the same as you would view. You need to think of what sort of school would suit your child - small, medium, large, infants only, primary etc.

If it is somewhere that you are looking to live for a number of years then actually I would probably look at the secondary schools (fewer and often far more variable) and then work back (ie which primary schools would lead to these secondary schools).

The secondary school issue is a very good point LadyMuck-it comes around surprisingly quickly.I also agree with your comments on 'best school', that is why I said ignore league tables. An excellent school will fail to make a place in the league tables if they have special needs, they can also be very narrow-teaching to the SATs. The only way is to visit and see which suits your child-which may be completely different from what suits your neighbours/friends child.
