I need to rant about our preschool committee

Is it normal for a preschool committee to be as disorganised as ours? I know everyone is volunteering but why volunteer if you gonna be blah about things.

We have a quiz night planned for friday. It was advertised, only on posters at preschool, but they only went up last tuesday. The lady who volunteered to print tickets had to be asked today(by me) when I would get the tickets in order to be able to sell them. I mean ffs it's 4 days away and not one ticket has been sold How many people will be able to come and get others to come in a few days? I'm just imagining an embarassing turn out.

Also, the christmas bazaar seems to be just as rubbishly organised. Ok so we have a month still but I have no idea what i'll be doing at it and we have only 5 committee memebers so presumably i'll be doing quite a bit.

I am new to all this committee business(signed up in oct) but really, is it always a shambles? How are they expecting to raise money

The other thing is, i mentioned advertising the preschool to our chairperson and she said they would need new children in Jan. As far as I know no adverts have gone anywhere yet. If I was a parent of a child coming to that age where they can go to preschool(2 1/2-3) then I would be looking around now or even before now. Surely they would realise this

Maybe I expect too much. Don't know. Anyway someone tell me to lighten up, leave these people to muddle through. Maybe the committee isn't the place for me

Thanks for reading

Well, we ended up with 27 people coming along last night, which wasn't bad. Only 5 parents out of 31 sets though If only we'd had a raffle. Oh and MY TEAM WON

Concentrating on the christmas bazaars now.

Well, think yourself lucky. At least you don't have a secretary with a major conflict of interest, who is doing a very good job at getting our pre-school playgroup shut down. Worse still, the other committee members are too cowradly to get rid of her! Count your blessings.

ooooooooooook, thanks for that

I need to rant about our pre-school committee too! Seriously, disorganised is one thing but when they've lost the will to live or fight for the playgroup. Well, it just makes me want to weep.

i know, sorry, typed my message then thought about the title of my thread rant away

Sound like you need a new committee. It's to think that you're all supposed to be doing this for the children and people either can't be bothered or in your case are actively trying to ruin it

Haven't got any words of advice as i'm a novice at this committee malarky.

This secretary (who I only found out at the committee meeting last week, left our playgroup to work at another nursery - in effect, our competitor/rival) organised for the photographer of our local newspaper to turn up to the playgroup when it was closed. Luckily, this photographer was really cool about it, and said he'll come back some other time but I'm still fuming. He was going to write up a piece following our OFSTED inspection which was very good and take photos of our children playing. Instead, he turned up to empty premises with only 2 children about. Now THAT's disorganised! By the way, this person is very media savey, which is the reason why some of the committee members wanted her to stay. But at the rate she's going, well, you simply can't mess the local press about in such a way. I can't think of a better way to turn people against us!
