My dd has just stared at playschool/preschool and absolutely loves it. I am very impressed with the level of care and range of activites they offer and feel it is the right level for my dd 2.10. However finding it really wierd that they call the helpers/carers aunty so and so. Am i just being strange about this? is it normal in other preschools? Ofsted made no comments on it in there assessments.
also I am finding very hard to explain family relationships to dd because of this
Advice and comments please!

Normal. Kids understand difference between real auntie and aunties at nursry

You're not strange, it's definitely weird. Ds1's old preschool had 2 carers called Karen, so one was 'Aunty Karen' and I wasn't too keen - what's wrong with 'Mrs Karen' or Karen 1' and 'Karen 2'?. They're not Aunties, or any relation, as you say, so they really only need to be known by their christian names.

My SIL two ds's went to a nursery where they are/were called anuty; it took me a while to get my head round it but I think it's quite a good idea. Giving the transition of being away from the family but in a gentle/reassuring way perhaps???
