Phased start or jump right in?

My son is able to start preschool after Easter when he will be 2. Initially it’s just one day per week and then hopefully increase from September when spaces come on other days become available.

Would it be better to do a half day for a few weeks and then do a full day? He’s been looked after by our parents before but never been to Nursery or a child minder so I don’t know how he will be.

Also I’m kind of thinking if he does a full day he may start dropping his afternoon nap and I don’t think I’m ready for that just yet so maybe that’s reason enough to stick at half a day until after the summer holidays? Confused

He will be able to sleep, at Nursery, for as long as he needs to.

I would be guided by what the Nursery say.
A single day a week is never ideal - it is a long time between each time he goes so can (for many children) be like having to start again every week, with 'settling'. My thinking is 1/2 a day won't make that easier, but let the staff guide you.

Do they not let you have a taster session first?
