pre-school ballet classes

Hi, I would like some advice. I'm setting up a pre-school ballet class, for children aged 3-5 (not yet in school) and I was wondering what time of day would be good for this, in general terms. I was thinking of 4pm. Is that too late in the day? What do you think? I was trying to consider people coming to and from nursery, or at home all day etc.
Please let me know your opinion. Thanks.

when i took my daughters to pre-school ballet, we went to one that was at 11 am on a Saturday, which worked well with my schedule. if you were going to do one during the week, i would say around 1;30-2. good luck!

My 2.5yr old DD attends ballet (since 18m) at 10:30am.

Perfect time to get home in time for lunch.

id love a class at 4pm because most other classes are in the morning and then you have all this time to kill in the afternoon!! Its also pretty hard to get out of the house in the morning sometimes with my toddler and we often miss groups we were supposed to go to that start at 10am. Id be very very happy if there were other ones on in the late afternoon. Could get to them after his lunch and his nap.

I'm going to say no to 4pm, if you have other children it can clash with other activities and they are so tired by 4pm IME that the concentration isn't there.
9.30/10am was my ideal time for preschool activities as it fitted in with the school drop off for older ones, LO is alert, you don't have to come home and go out again which is a pain, and like others have said you're home in time for lunch.

So, I'm not able to get a room on Saturdays for 10am ish.... but weekdays is available, what about a weekday in the morning? Any good?

4pm would be perfect for me during the week. Dd has nursery in the morning and is quiet tired when she gets home around 12. But picks up more energy around 3. But everyone is different I guess.
Not sure how helpful that was op Blush

Thanks everyone. More opinions are still helpful!

People with older children may struggle with 4pm on a weekday, as they may be picking up older children from school and transporting them to their activities. I would be inclined to think that within school hours would be better.

CaitlinsYellowSocks · 06/09/2018 12:40

Most nurseries and preschools around us have morning sessions (until 12/12.30) and optional afternoon sessions (until 3.30). I do know some children who only attend in the afternoon but this seems much rarer.

So I'd go for an afternoon class if it was on a weekday - if you hold morning classes you're less likely to get children who attend a nursery or preschool.

I've just been looking at extra curricular activities for my three year old son and having to rule out those with morning classes since they clash with his nursery.

Thanks CatlinsYellowSocks, That really makes sense to me... thank you.

Morning would be better for me- in fact we’re starting ballet on a Friday morning. 4 would be a pain with older kids and school run. With just the one 4.30 would work ok but I’d prefer mornings.

April2020mom · 09/09/2018 21:38

Mornings are a better time. I found some preschool activity classes in my local phone directory for my two children to attend. I’ve been looking at morning sessions only. Mainly because I can do my grocery shopping by lunchtime quickly.

BikeRunSki · 09/09/2018 21:41

Before about 9/9.30 am or after 3pm or weekends, you are limiting your market to people without school age children.

Weekday mornings at times between 9.30-12 noon would be bang on.

InDubiousBattle · 09/09/2018 21:44

I have a 3 year old dd and I look for stuff on weekday mornings. I now have ds in school so can't do late afternoons. Also at 3 my ds used to nap in the early afternoon. Ds has only just started school but my plan is to drop him of and then go straight to a class/group with dd so 9.30 ish would work best.

wendz86 · 12/09/2018 08:20

For that age the afternoon is better as a lot are at pre school / nursery . My youngest dd who is 3 attends a class at 2-2.30 which gives us time to have lunch after nursery and time after to pick her sister up from school .

mumzword · 12/09/2018 09:12

Thanks Wendz86, that really does make sense.

My DDs class was at about 3.45 from memory. It was a pain because I usually had to take her older brother along as he had finished school.
Earlier afternoons or mornings would have been great for me!

mumzword · 12/09/2018 12:01

Thanks Seeline, One of the original times I'd thought about was 3.45, owing to room availability, but it just didn't seem right to me, and that makes sense, any parents picking up children from school would have to tag along... not much fun! Thanks for your comment and help.
