EYFS qualifications...

I have a Level 2 Cache TA qualification (officially called Suporting Teaching and Learning in schools) it covers child development, safeguarding, communication with children and parents, planning activities, bahviour management etc).

I’d like to work for a while in a EYFS setting Pre School or Nursery. Most adverts I can see ask for GCSE A-C (which I have) and a either Level 2 Cache EYFS child workforce qualification or another “full and relevant” Level 2 Qualification.

Does anyone here work as a manger of a nursery or Pre School perhaps? Or does anyone happen to know and can clarify if my L2 qualification is suitable for Pre School positions? Is it classed as full and relevant for staff ratios?

Thanks in advance! :)

I might be wrong but my understanding is the TA qualification is much less intense/in detail then say a NVQ Level 2 in Early years care and education. But I could be wrong as I've been out of work for a few years so I things may have changed

It’s possible. The TA L2 qualification was 20 days classroom based and 100 hours practical placement. I think it’s about the same as EYFS L2.

I did a level 2 in early years care and education and it was a 2 year course - one day a week in training centre and 4 days a week in a placement.

But that was a few years ago so may have changed but I'd be surprised if a 20 day course had the same equivalent?

It’s unlikely because it’s not an early years qualification, I think you can check on the Gov website. You might still be taken on as an unqualified member of staff though, or they might offer to put you through your NVQ3 in early years of that’s what you wanted to do.

It’s not relevant for early years
Unless you have been assessed in early years

The government give a list of accepted qualifications, there are those obtained before 2014 and those obtained after when the rules about what the course covers changed. They change again soon for courses starting next year.

They can be seen here so you can see for yourself but most if not all TA qualifications don't count I am afraid.
