Taking over a playgroup...

Hi all,

I am considering taking over the running of a local playgroup (stay and play session), as the lady running it at the wants to step down when her youngest goes into full time school. The group itself has been running for at least 15 years, possibly longer and I think has just changed hands like this over time - its run on a voluntary basis in the local community centre and all the toys and materials etc are kept there. I currently attend the group with my youngest and we love it, which is why we're considering it (otherwise it will have to close as nobody else has volunteered). My question is this: Aside from public liability insurance, do I need anything else? The parents/carers stay for the duration of the session & are responsible for their own children. My role, is running the group (setting up, collecting entrance fee, clearing away and providing a snack and juice). Could anyone point me in the direction of any websites/ information on setting up a playgroup and the legal requirements, for example do I need an up to date first aid qualification or a DBS check? Or not as the parents/ carers are present? Sorry for waffling and thanks in advance for any help!

Can you not talk to the woman currently running it? ,have a good long discussion about what you need (I would think yes to dbs and paed first aid), what time it takes outside of session (those toys won't steralize themselves) etc
