nursery class in school vs dedicated nursery for 3 yo

my mum- perhaps my fault for not keeping her abreast of timelines - has just twigged that Dds name is down for the nursery class of the primary i want to send her to. She's prone to dramatic overstatement - and this decision has been called 'the end of childhood'.

She reckons nursery, for greater flexibility, for more relaxed pace and because she says school years are too long as it is without an extra year. She sees having to move after one year as an advantage - change of scene.

I thought i had this one cracked - like the school, she'll have friends, professional and engaged teachers and helpers, minimum upheaval. its like what i see as positives she sees as negatives.

Any one else feels strongly on this?

It really really depends on whether they understand that 3 and 4 year olds are NOT mini five year olds and have tailored their provision accordingly. It's no good having a nursery teacher who's not a nursery specialist or the little ones will be really miserable. They need their own play space, not to be mixed in with the older kids. Nursery provision in primary schools is extremely variable and really needs close investigation

DS1 loves his nursery class at the local primary, it's incredibly relaxed there and as far as I can see the year is actually shorter than some of the "mere" nurseries
