is this right?

as this is what the teacher verbally said to me and then a week after that we will go to her preschool for my dd to meet everyone who will be starting at the same time as her

They do this here too - but they explictly told us that it was to get to know the child on a 1-1 basis, not to inspect our homes, because their houses were probably dustier/more untidy than ours!

It is standard at the school my dd's attend. When dd1 started it was only the pre-school teachers that did this, but when dd2 started it was Reception as well.

I think it is great for the children to meet their teachers in their home environment. It really helped dd2 as she is quite shy around people she doesn't know.

One of the local school nurseries does home visits as standard before child starts, I don't think any others do, though.

Weird, Preschool is fun and playing, none of her business what your dd is like at home

lock away your silver

how odd

are you allowed to visit her home to see what she is like in her home environment?...now that would be interesting

The school nursery my daughter is at has just introduced an afternoon per term when the entire class is told to stay home for the day and the new kids get to go have a look around the nursery and explore without the older kids barging about. It means they familiarise themselves with the territory as well as their teacher.

Maybe you could suggest this at the next PTA type thing and see if it's something they'd consider instead?
