Secret Santa in Preschool

Is it now common nowadays for preschools and/or playgroups to ask parents to provide the presents if you want your child to have a small gift during the Christmas party. The reason why I ask is my DS's preschool has asked for this but when my DD was in preschool in 2013 we didn't have a request like this and I just wanted to know if things have changed these days

I think it's going to open up a can of worms.
What if Father Christmas give one child a £30 present and another gets a £1 present ? Shock

I think this is one that the Nursery have to give all the dc the same, or nothing at all (a visit can mean like a visit to a grotto, where child meets FC and tells him what they'd like)

It's not something I have heard of but with early years budgets so squeezed I imagine it was the only way they could think to afford to do gifts at the Christmas party.

The Nursery could ask all parents to contribute £2 or something, but it's a really bad idea to ask parents to send something in

I had to do this 14 years ago, but we were told no more than £5 to be spent on the present. The pre school made sure every child had a present if none was provided.
