Should she go..?

Hi, my name is Donna and I have just logged onto this site for some advice. My daughter is nearly 4 yrs old and currently attends a private nursery for 2 full days a week. I work for 3 days a week and my daughter is looked after by her grandma on the other day.

Therefore, we always have a 'mummy day' on Mondays and Fridays. My daughter could start at the village school nursery in April 07 (as we are in Scotland she does not need to start Primary until Aug 08). My husband is quite keen on her to attend for two mornings a week but she is not so keen and to be honest I quite like having her with me on the Monday and Friday. It won't be that long until she has to go to school so I feel that if she doesn't attend the school nursery it's not the end of the world. However, the school nursery has an excellent reputation so I also think she may miss out - so i am in a bit of a dilemma. Should I send her there in April - even if she does not want to go - your views would be appreciated!!

Donna

Hi Dewi! The good thing if she goes to the village nursery is that she'll make friends with kids that will be going on to the local primary - or maybe cos it's a village she has that where she is at the private nursery? in which case I'd do what suits you - they're not with you long before theyre away at school afterall.

I'd send her. I work the same pattern as you and love my mons and fris with dds. but I actually value the 2hrs dd1 is at nursery too - didn't think I would but it gives me time to catch up on some housework etc and not worry that I'm not interacting with dd. DD1 has done nursery since sept and loves it, shes flourished so much and has made some friends to start school with.

Hi Dewi, I would send her too. I would worry that she'll be missing out if she didn't go.

Plan something nice to do together in the afternoon.

I'd send her too, you'll also make some new friends in the playground. You'd be amazed at what you can get done in 2 1/2hrs by yourself and you've still got the afternoons together.
