Howcome ?Ds didn't get his free hours until he was 3.

Twiglett · 01/02/2007 20:35

I thought the govt said from 3 years

the pre-school won't get funding for a 2 year old will they?

misdee · 01/02/2007 20:37

i read thr leaflet, she falls in this terms turning two bracket. so because we are on benefits, she is eligable for a place (3 sessions a week) from april 2007. but i WON'T be taking it. i will consider for 2008 though.

3 FUNDED sessions as well.

OP posts:
nutcracker · 01/02/2007 20:38

Oh, must only be in certain places as I know a couple of people on benefits that have still got to wait until their child is 3.

misdee · 01/02/2007 20:39

its mad, she is even potty trained yet. and cant talk that well, certainly not enough for anyone else to understand her.

I meant she can go from 2.6 but she will be 3 in july so free in Sept when DD1 will be at school

Biglips · 01/02/2007 20:40

what benfits do u have be on? as just curious....not that i do want to put my dd in school now but ill be ready in october

misdee · 01/02/2007 20:46

the incomes on the list (and this is for hertfordshire)

income support, income based JSA, housing benefit, council tax benefit, child and/or WTC if the family income for tax credit purpioses is currently £25,521 a year or less.

OP posts:
Biglips · 01/02/2007 20:48

so u only have to have one or all of the benefits?...hmm very interesting

nutcracker · 01/02/2007 20:49

Blimey, that would be alot of people entitled to alot of free nursery time if that was available here.

Mind you our nursery wouldn't have the spaces anyway, it's always full.

Biglips · 01/02/2007 20:49

soz for being nosey

misdee · 01/02/2007 20:49

one. but that is for hertfordshire.

now the differculties lie in finding a place lol

dd2 started at a preschool when she was 3, she had been on the list for a year for it though.

pucca · 01/02/2007 20:59

It is interesting as i am having to pay for 2 sessions a week (my choice to ease dd in) and my dd is 3, but she isnt eligible for free sessions till April, we are not on any benefits btw.

misdee · 01/02/2007 21:04

i dont see why being on benefits makes her eligable for a place a year early tbh. doesnt make sense to my sleep deprived brain.

I think it depends on the pre-schools age admission policy, which are different from Nurseries. Nurseries take children from the term after they are 3 and its funded....
it does sound strange though that she can go this age.. and funded... but there you go.. probably a government target or something!

Biglips · 01/02/2007 21:48

what about nursery vouchers? what benefits do u need to be on? as atm my dd doesnt go to her nursery for pre-sessions anymore as they stopped doing it....meaning she used to go on monday mornings for 2 hours andi pay out of my pocket but now i gotta pay from 8am - 1pm - a full morning which i cant afford so she will be joined to my hip till october.

sorry about the hjjack misdee

LizP · 04/02/2007 16:46

Presuamably the early free place is to encourage you to go to work and not be on benefits (which I know can't happen in your situtation) and I wouldn't send mine at that age either but I guess that must be the reason - get non-working mothers back to work!

misdee · 04/02/2007 16:49

buts it only 2.5hours three times a week. hardly enough time to get a job is it? unless you have a job next door.

I've just got the stuff for our playgroup - and from Jan 2007 all 2 year olds (in Hertfordshire) with parents on benefits or with incomes of less than £25,521 per year (and claiming child or working tax credit) are entitled to 3 free sessions a week from the term after they turn 2. I guess it is to bridge the gap between when most children start pre-school and when the 3 year grant kicks in for parents that would like to send their children but don't because of cost. Does say it depends on the pre-school having space - and ours will stick to the rising 3 as the minimum age so some children will get 1 or 2 terms benefit.
