dd is 18 months and has a wonderful childminder, however this is a couple of miles from where we used to live. we have now moved to an area which means that i have to drive for 15 - 20 min to drop off dd, drive to train station then go to work (4 days a week) i haven't moved her because she gets on so well with childminder and other children, and CM really supports us and feel like she has been my emotional crutch during very difficult times i have had being a new parent.

the thing is, i am sure dd has to start preschool in next year or so, and will need to be dropped off there and picked up at lunch time (assuming moning session). my CM lives too far to ask her to do this, especially since she looks after another child who will be going to pre-school locally.

when should i look for a local cm? i am thinking 6 months before she starts pre-school??? or could i wait a little longer.

dd is 2 in July.

any advice really appreciated

hello forevermore,

don't forget that your dd could go to preschool close to her existing childminder's - she doesn't have to go close to your house! So she wouldn't necessarily have to move to a local CM?

My son didn't start nursery until he was 3 and 3 months and got the free place. Up until then I took him to drop-in groups and playgroups and did parent and toddler things. Seems to have worked well for us, he is sociable and confident.

Hope this helps in some tiny way!
