Getting your children to school is not the LEAs concern so having to go backwards and forwards and drop children of in different places isn't going to help you get a place.

Make sure your child is on the waiting list for your preferred school. Some LEAs do it automatically, some don't. So phone up and find out which it is. Make sure you accept the place you have been offered otherwise you could end up with no place at all. It won't help an appeal to not have a school place. The LEA only have to offer a place once.

Depending on when your child turns 5 you can hold off sending them to school and hope they move up the waiting list. Make sure you keep your offered school place though.

Your LEA should be able to tell you which criteria the last child was admitted under. If you think your child should have been admitted before the last child, you might have a chance at appeal. If not, it's highly unlikely.

I meant the primary school you are trying to get your 4 year old into.. Is that catchment for you?

"how do i get that info pls"

If it is not included in the letter, then you need email the sender of the latter and ask what admissions category your DC was placed in, what distance they have for you from the school. Also, ask what was the category and distance from the school of the last child offered.

Only with that information can you start to see if it's likely a mistake has been made.

Also worth checking your application (do you still have a copy) to see if you made any mistakes. This won't give you grounds for appeal or magic up a place, but might move you much further up the waiting list.

What's wrong with the mum being back at work? Confused

The admissions people at you local authority are worth talking to as they generally want to help and are the best people to advise why you didn't get a place, and who got one before you. Don't treat them as the enemy, they are simply implementing the rules
