Just to let you know that we joined in the Tesco 'Sports for schools' voucher scheme this year for the first time (didn't realise Playgroups could join before) - and we got enough for a new folding trampoline . Just thought I'd let you know as it took a lot less effort than most of our fundraising events!

That's good to know. I'm really demoralised with fundraising at the moment - we did chocolate for chocoholics before christmas and it was loads of hassle - and we earned just £12. Xmas Sad

redshoes · 20/12/2006 10:20

Yeah some things just aren't worth doing. We found catalogues like Yellow Moon etc just not worth it. You have to try these things though! Our big one is our May Fayre, and within that, the raffle makes the most.

We made £900 at our xmas fair..(which is pretty good going for us)
We are trying the bags2 school thing in the new year. Anyone had much success with that?

FiveGoldenFIMBOIDs · 21/12/2006 19:23

Thanks for that Red Shoes will pass on to our fundraising officers

I am no longer chair but when I was the photographer pulled in a lot of money.

The best thing I did when there was a ticket auction - write to all the local attractions and ask them to donate tickets then draw up a big chart and people do closed bids. It is virtually free and we raised about 200 from that alone. If anyone wants I can email the letters we used.

Troutpout · 21/12/2006 20:14

We did that as part of our xmas fair Dimple...but we have a public auction. It was good fun...and people really tried to outbid each other. Raised about 350 quid

DimpledThighs · 21/12/2006 20:27

it is a fab one isn't it! Couldn't do the public auction due to lack of man power but everyone was supportive in their bids.

DimpledThighs · 21/12/2006 20:28

btw congrats on 900 for your xmas fair - if we broke 200 I thought we had done well!

geogteach · 22/12/2006 13:37

We just got news today that we were successful in our bid to BT community connections for a PC and free broadband for a year, pre school will be dragged kicking and screaming into the 21st century [big grin]

happystory · 22/12/2006 13:43

And the Sainsburys Active kids is good too, we got some fab outdoor PE type equipment for our playgroup, and cos we are in a community hall, we discovered that old ladies from the keep fit class next door had been donating their vouchers too!!!

wethreekingsofORINOCOare · 22/12/2006 17:44

Troutpout, dd1's school's just done bagtoschool, and from 50 ish kids (it's a small school!) they made £130. So they're really pleased.. can't seem to get preschool interested in it though, don't know why, it's literally money for stuff you would throw away anyway!

busybusymum · 22/12/2006 18:00

we are doing the bag2school thingy in the new year.

Just done a christmas hamper raffle, all committee and staff donate a food item. We sold tickets at the christmas shows and made over £250

redshoes · 23/12/2006 03:24

Troutpout, well done on £900! We've done nothing this term, but lots planned for rest of year!
What is Bags2school???
Dimple, interesting - that's how we get our raffle prizes...hmmm, wonder if auction better than straightforward raffle?????

Busymum, I'm nicking that idea for next year

Geogteach, that's brilliant - our parents are very anti computers, we just debated it at a committee meeting. But good to know BT are supporting the community!

Our best one is a photographer that takes photos in time to get them back for mother's day. We get the "fee" for each photo, they get a photo and the sitting for $10. Presumably some people buy loads of copies and that's how she makes her money. Not a lot of hassle and you know how much you will make as it's just bookings x $10.

Worst (in terms of hassle)has to be a sausage sizzle, which takes 10-15 people and a lot of running around to make around $600.

Can you hire out the playgroup premises, or maybe some of the larger toys at Christmas when you are closed (to be returned clean of course).

wethreekingsofORINOCOare · 31/12/2006 22:27

redshoes, bag2school is a company that supply large bags (aka bin bags) and arranges to collect them on certain day at a certain time. Parents fill them with old shoes, clothes, bedding etc etc etc (jumble basically) and bag2school pay £2.50 (i think) for each bag received. There's no storage needed, as you just tell everyone to turn up with their bags at a certain time and chuck them on the van.

redshoes · 01/01/2007 19:47

Wow - that's what we all do for Charity shops for free already - what do bag2school do with it next?
