Hi I'm hoping someone on here can help me. Me and partner booked a holiday in April for July. My daughter is 3 and started nursery in september and I didn't give it much thought to be honest. Now I'm worried because after looking online I'm reading conflicting information. Most people say that if they are not 5 and in full time education that the rules do not apply as the education is not compulsory. I have tried looking on the government website but the only information I can find is for primary school aged children. Also, Im even scared to approach the school as I have just applied for her reception place starting g September 2016 and do not no if this would affect her chances of getting a place. Can someone please help lol

I had my daughter off on holiday while at nursery and other parents had their kids off too. She isn't legally obligated to attend (some kids don't go to nursery at all). The only thing it might affect is if there are stay and play sessions at the school she will be attending but these aren't compulsory, more helpful for the kids to see where they are going.

And it won't affect her reception placement as this us decided at council level based on the criteria they set

Thanks. To be honest I'm not even worried about paying the fine if I get one as this will be the last holiday she goes on during term time. The thing I am most worried about is if this could affect her getting a place in the reception class. Think I will just have to bite the bullet and speak to the school

Just to add, assuming it's a state school the school have no say at all in allocating places, that's down to the local authority and the allocations will be in strict accordance with their rules, which are all to do with distance you live from the school and siblings already at the school. In no way would you taking a holiday have any impact on whether you're offered a place at a school.

Thank you very much as this was my main concern. I feel a bit more at ease now

Honestly its fine. Termtime holidays for nursery children are completely normal and expected really. Everybody does it. I fully expect your nursery to smile and say have a good time and thats it.

We took our son out of school nursery for a term time holiday, as did several other parents. They're not yet compulsory school age so it is not a problem. Reception admissions are decided at county council level.

Branleuse · 21/09/2015 11:27

it will be fine. Nursery is not compulsory

Hi just an update. So I spoke to the teacher and I really shouldn't have been so worried. She basically confirmed everything yous have said and just told us to go an enjoy ourselves. I feel much better now lol
