Does your preschool/playgroup serve a snack to the children? What do they have?

Just curious as I've been asked to make suggestions after mumbling that I didn't think the snack was that great at our playgroup!
It's all right, but too many crisps/cracker type thingies.

They get a choice of two things. It's stuff like fruit, crumpets, malt loaf, carrots, cucumber, dried fruit. They also get a drink of milk and they have access to water or their own drink whenever they like.

at MadDogShitWoman

Our nursery thing only serves raisins, which is ok but not exactly what I expected when they said "fruit". I prefer it to shitey cheap biscuits, though.

At the group I run I serve 3 of the following each week: malt loaf, breadsticks, oat cakes, banana, apple, raisins, carrot sticks, popcorn and rice cakes. All organic. I charge 50p for these snacks and a cup of tea or coffee for the parent.

My dd goes in the morning.
They have things like
milk/water
scotch panckes
biscuits
bread sticks
toast
cheese on toast plus others I suppose!

Then when they are leaving they are offered different fruits (usually apple, pear, banana, satsuma), tomatoes, carrots etc

NotQuiteCockney · 15/11/2006 21:36

We mostly have fruit. We don't offer that much, as it tends to put them off their lunch (we also do lunch).

But yeah, fruit, and maybe a bit of carb.

After a trip to the loo, all the pre-sch children sit down at tables and drink either milk or water and a large plate is circulated from which they choose cucumber, peppers, carrot, grapes, raisins, apple, pear, tangerine, banana etc. Very occasionally they get biscuits.

Afterwards, one child collects the cups and another the plates. It's a very nice little exercise!

My sons preschool asks for 20p per session which we pay each half term, because they felt what the Government had allocated them was not enough to provide for the children properly.
He gets two things on offer, eg.
Pancakes
pitta bread
french bread
grapes
cheese
banana
apple
sometimes biscuit
then milk or water for drink

Troutpout · 23/11/2006 16:01

Just asked dd (3) this is her list (i haven't a clue tbh)...

cheese
samosas
pineapple
apple
crackers
mango chutney
carrots
banana
oranges
grapes
raisons
cornflakes
rice crispies
celery sticks
cucumber
tomatoes

Our nursery is part of a 'healthy schools scheme' and this means the children get a piece of fruit( or veg) free each day. Its great. My son has tried new things because of it.

DumbledoresGirl · 23/11/2006 16:08

Ds3's playgroup gives all sorts of things for snack. Today they had oranges, nuts and thin biscuits (whatever the latter may be!) Sometimes they have toast, sometimes yoghurt - it really varies every day. A real mixture of things, some healthy, some less so which I actually approve of.

At the playgroup my other children used to go to, they had crackers with marmite or soft cheese (choice) every day.

princessmel dd's pre-school is a member of the healthy schools scheme as well, I agree it's great.
