thank god he's a september baby and has another year of preschool ,but he just doesn't want to draw or paint or anything like that.He can hold a pencil in the correct way but needs correcting. Is it worth persevering ,will he eventually want to use a pencil and draw? Anyone else been through this?

This has reassured me... Our dd is 3.3. she will not write, rarely draws or colours but loves reading. She will play with her dollshouse for hours, ride scooter, everything physical but hold a pencil - NO! I know I shouldn't worry but all her female peers are devoted to colouring whereas she is more interested in 'doctoring'!

My son hated drawing at 4, or sitting down to do anything really! All he wanted to do was play with his friends. I'd say he did better drawings at 2 than 3 or 4. He's a July baby and started school the term before he was 5. Few weeks later and he was drawing again, no worse than many of the other children. Now he's in Year 1 and it's his favourite activity!

i think at this age everything should be big, for example big broad pencil, small pencils r not good for the grip, my son is 4, he loves his big pencil, and scribbles (big).Best of luck.
