Private day nurseries vs sure start nursery

What would be the best overall nursery for my 2yr old girl
I'm torn between 2 nurseries one being a new private nursery and the other being a nursery within a sure start centre
Both have good ofsted ratings

Go and see them and see how you feel. I far preferred the feel of the council run nursery for my 2 year old and it was an excellent fit for the year that she was there. She made some great friends and the staff were really warm and loving but all nurseries are different so you really can't say without visiting.

Sorry should have said, I've already viewed the 2 both are nice with good staff, the private one is brand new so spotlessly clean and the sure start is a bit messy but has good equipment etc...
My only concern is the sure start is in a run down area with a lot of under privileged kids attending.

Eeek, watch out - a wee bit snobbish? Whilst many of us may think this sort of thing, I think to express it on Mumsnet is asking for trouble....

Actually, FWIW, I think you should leave the SureStart place for someone who is "under-privileged" and needs it ... Hmm

similar scenarik and I chose the sure start one for my dc.
yes, we had to walk through an estate to get there, but after a few weeks you realise that it's not too bad. after all people live there :)
pros: staff were local, so no closures when tube strike, snow etc
staff ratio was much better than in the private one
male staff
closer to parks
nice outside space
cheaper

and most importantly, my gut feeling was so much better. staff cuddle with kids, don't let them cry.

Lots of my friends sent their kids to the local sure start nursery and loved it. If you don't qualify for a subsidised place you pay normal nursery fees and the staff say the fees really help with funding. You wouldn't be doing someone who needs it out of a place as they only offer limited fee paying places

Thanks for replys - I'm not snobbish and I'm posting for advice I'm not into arguing I just wanted to know if anyone had any experience of sure start vs private as i have already been let down by private nurseries

We've had DD in both and hands down the council run one is the better. Staff have wealth of experience and low turnover so good continuity etc. The private nursery had a lot of very young staff- who were lovely but definitely lacking in long term experience and had very high turn over.

It is a well respected local nursery with high fees.
The children's centre is a fraction of the price and has more space, equipment and structure in place.
All depends on the feel of the place tbh. Good luck.

Sure start nurseries were always better in my experience. The employees were not 17 years old, they had access to proper training, they were paid above NMW and they provided excellent care.
