Ds started at preschool a year ago and settled okay in first week or 2. Then a charming liitle thug arrived and ds was terrified of him (they'd be playing then this boy would whack him/push him etc - you know the type)
Anyway put ds off pre-school completely. After a month or 2 this boy was taken out of preschool as his mum didn't believe the staff were telling the truth about his behaviour.
Ds was better at pre school but took ages and ages.
Now he's starting at the school nursry, and so is this other little boy (can't believe it as there are loads of schools round here)
Ho-hum, just another thing for me to stress about. Ds doesn't know yet and I'm hoping he will have forgotten. I know he'll come across other unsavoury sorts and will have to deal with it. Its just that this boy spoilt his first away from mum experience. But am anxious enough about him settling as it is...

That's very annoying. Pre-school staff are quite limited in how they can discipline children - no using the word 'naughty' let alone a naughty step. School teachers will take a firmer view of thuggish behaviour. The boy in question may also have grown out of some of his aggressive tendencies - and likewise, your DS may have learnt how to deal with/avoid or retaliate. You could always have a quiet word with the teacher to explain your concern without alarming your son. Hope it works out OK.

Think I may mention my concern, just maybe say that ds and x had "issues" at pre-school, could they keep an eye out. Don't want to go in labelling x as a thug!
