Just wanted to ask you knowledgeable MNers instead of looking ignorant in front of the nursery staff Blush

I'm looking around nurseries in the area and they all seem to wear full-on hospital scrubs - not sure why!

Ours don't!

Oh, it might be nappy changing, hadn't thought of that. Still, they wear a hat and shoe coverings as well! Thanks!

I've never worn scrubs in the 20 years I've been working in nurseries.

The staff at mine wear black trousers and uniform of purple tunic and hoodie with nursery name on.
No scrubs!

peppapigmustdie · 20/11/2013 11:04

Mine just wear their own clothes.

I suppose shoe coverings is to protect the carpets from germs when there's kids crawling on the floor.

Hat is a bit OTT I'd have thought. Ask them.

hats and aprons are for food preparation to stop cross contamination
shoe coverings are for baby units as the babies are on the floor all the time
aprons and gloves are required for nappy changing and toilet accidents
some nurseries wear tunics like nursing staff
in a typical day the staff could be expected to deal with any sort of bodily fluid as well as mud, food, paint and other messy play
it's a very messy job!
