Bit of a ramble, sorry but on a understanding mission!

DD is 2.6. She goes to nursery for 1 morning a week, mainly to give me a break. New baby is due in 3 months and we had thought about upping her time at nursery. However, I have been thinking about the local preschool which would be a lot cheaper and also I have found out that she just misses the school-nursery deadline so won't be starting until April, and I feel that the toddler groups we do now won't keep her interest until then.

I have rung them today and will be going to have a look around next week. I am a bit worried that I am focusing on cost and nothing else though.

What are the main differences between the two? (apart from the price). Is it better for them if they are older than 3? Are there any extras to pay for?

Pre schools are usually just session of 2.5 hrs, which is usually funded by the government.
Often they are linked to a primary school.
Depending on the setting, they may seem more structured than a nursery.
They follow the early years curriculum, as do nurseries.
If they are linked to school, there my be opportunity to have time in school before she stars.
May be extras such as trips and things. May need to provide a snack.
