DD brings home work from preschool every day. It wasnt until she accidentally brought home another girls work yesterday that I noticed this.

DDs paintings/drawings are always the same colour. One day it will be all red. The next all blue etc.

Her sticking pictures are always the same. Eg, they get lots of colours/shapes of things to stick on paper. Hers are only one thing. Yesterday she made two paper plates with a purple circle stuck in the middle. Both the same Hmm

The other girls work is all different colours. Different shapes etc.

Am I seeing an issue where there is none? Is she just lacking in imagination?

She might just be very artistic and have more taste than the others!
We had a Brownie once who only ever used black. She's a teen now though and well adjusted.
Have you asked DD why she sticks to one colour?

wannabedomesticgoddess · 18/09/2012 11:40

No because I have only really given it thought today and I wont see her unti tomorrow now.

Doubt I would get much sense out of her though.

DP has pointed out that she uses all the colours when using her giant chalks outside. Maybe she feels shes not allowed to use too much different things in pre school?

Is it worth saying to the teachers or are they going to think Im being daft?

I'd ask out of curiosity rather than concern. Perhaps she sits next to the red/purple/whatever and it's just easier.

SpottyBananas · 18/09/2012 12:11

Is she quiet/shy?
Perhaps she paints with whatever colour she managed to get from the table and is not bothered/shy to get different colours?

I think it's good to mention this to teachers so that they can keep an eye and encourage her if the reason behind this is shyness.

wannabedomesticgoddess · 18/09/2012 12:59

Well shes not shy at home but then that doesnt mean much. I suppose its only two weeks in and maybe she doesnt want to assert herself.

I will mention it. I just dont like to think of her feeling like she can only use certain things.

She loves painting and drawing etc so I suppose thats why I noticed it.

I really wouldn't worry about this.

I run a pre-school and i see children aged 2 1/2 - 4 daily and they are all different.

I did a sponge painting activity today with 6 colours and a sponge in each colour.
Some children used every colour in their picture, some just used 2/3 colours and a couple just used 1 colour.
Most children used the sponge that was in each colour pot.... So the sponges matched the paint colour but a couple of children just picked a sponge and then used it in every colour pot so their pictures turned brown!!!!

Its all about children's choice these days Smile

Thanks MrsTomHardy :)

How long roughly until I will get feedback on her progress? Theres a thing called "settling in" which is the first feed back but I have no idea of timeframes.

And its always so busy at drop off and pick up that I never get time to ask!

We have our first consultations end of oct/nov....but you should always speak to your childs keyworker if you have any concerns or questions. At my pre-school we encourage parents to speak to us at the beginning of the day but we always make time if a parent approaches us at the end.

I used to do things like that. I remeber doing a bonfire picture entirely in white pencil on black paper.

I was accepted by three different art colleges at age 18. (didn't get to go).

I vote for her being more artistic than the others.

wannabedomesticgoddess · 19/09/2012 09:32

More artistic when using less colours?

Never ever heard of that but two of you have said it now!!

Sorry that you didnt get to go sashh!!
