Can my daughter attend pre-school every other week?

DD (3 & 9 months) has been attending pre-school for about 6 months.

In a few weeks we are moving to a new area, the pre-school is only accessible by car. My DH works shifts, one of the shifts will allow us to take her and collect before he needs to be in work. The other is impossible. DH works alternate shifts on a weekly basis.

In January we will have saved enough for second 'run around' and I'll be able to take her. DD loves pre-school and I don't want her to miss out, or wait till next term.

DD qualifies for the 15 hr free place, but it stipulates that the child must attend at least 2 sessions a week Confused

I'm wondering where I stand really...

Speak to the individual preschool and see what they say.

Gumby · 03/09/2012 18:41

Well if they have to attend 2 sessions a week I think that answers your question

Especially if Its an over subscribed preschool it's not fair

kilmuir · 03/09/2012 18:42

Hmm think they may see it as they are not able to 'use' those hours on the week your child is not there. Might not mind if only for a short time

Feminine · 03/09/2012 19:04

Ok, thanks.

Its not an over subscribed pre-school at all.

I'm wondering if she is 'entitled' Wink to anything at all.

It seems a shame that she couldn't attend.

I'll talk to the pre-school next week.

how far is it? Is there no bus or could you get a taxi?

Its in a very , very rural spot. A taxi 4 times would be too expensive.

There are buses but they are infrequent.

The silly thing is, its only one and a half miles...if there were safe roads I'd be able to walk it.

My ds qualifies for the school bus on the grounds that its dangerous to walk.

Grin the pre-school is in the school grounds!

I'm not done looking in to the bus though...

Oh that is interesting buttons.

I'll ask this one what they think.

Incidentally my stepmother runs a pre-school too, she thinks there is a way round it :)

Would it be difficult for a pre-school to mark her as absent regularly?

Might a bicycle and child seat / trailer give you a potential short-term solution? Or talk to some of the other parents about sharing the journeys?

It's so close it seems a real shame not to look at some alternative solutions.

Feminine · 03/09/2012 19:27

I don't think its actually safe to bike it tbh. sugar

Its a really great idea though.

I don't know anyone in the area yet, so something might possibly come of that?

Thanks buttons :)

In your opinion then, do you think I should just wait till January?

I would speak to the nursery manager and see what can be done, I think most these days try hard to work around you. There were a few who did simiilar at dds nursery due to family visitation rights and it was allowed. For the record I don't think it makes a jot of difference if they attend regularly or not as dd was the only one of my 3 dcs to attend nursery or pre school, they all turned out the same. Maybe have friends round on the week of non attendance to keep dc happy.
