Taking Pre-schooler out of school for holiday

Hi there, my 3 year old is due to start kindy (kindergarden) in September, 2 full days at a private school in Surrey where he will most likely be until he turns 11-13. We have booked a holiday in September for 2 weeks and hope to go away in January. However, the school seem to be against children of any ages being taken out for holidays but I had hoped we could still do this at least while he's 3!! Have you come across a similar situation?
Thanks a lot,
Ruxy

No, your child, you are paying, do what you want! Not illegal!

How ridiculous! DD1 is 5, started reception this year and we took her away for a week in March. I think I'd take them out for a week each year all through primary school (might change my mind the older they get though, and obis not if it clashes with something important). The school (local authority) doesn't seem to mind as long as you fill in their form. She's not had a single day off sick, whereas there are some kids there who have a day of every other week. I figure as long as her attendance record is really good the rest of the time it's ok.

It's not such a problem in nursery, but I would definitely recommend that you avoid taking your child out of school in September in the future. At the first few weeks of try school year are key in settling children into a new class, with a new teacher and new routines.

Ignore the 'At' at the beginning of the second sentence. Not sure what it's doing there!

'the' not 'try'. Blimey - my typing's dreadful tonight!

It is not school - its nursery! It shouldn't ever be a problem at nursery at all as usually children start at different times throughout the year anyway.

It is non-mandatory to attend at that age so the school really can't say anything as long as you are paying for the place. There is no issue with regards to the NEG funding either so the school won't lose out.

At school age, yes, it is fairly disruptive to go on holiday in that first half term!
