Hi

I have a dilemma regarding pre school. I have read alot on here of the benefits of a school nursery and DS1 went to one so I am convinced. HOWEVER! we have now moved and new school does not have a nursery so have the following options for DS2

Community Pre School - lovely feel but no qualified teachers. It also offers wrap around care so older children will be around at certain parts of the day. There will be approx 30 children which are split into two rooms at certain time. Wear a uniform and do PE etc and has some loose links to a primary but it is one DS won't be going to. Can do after school for DS1. Approx £70pw

Private Nursery - he attends at the moment and is happy now but it took him a long time to settle in. His current room is a small one but the pre school room is 30 or so at all times. There is no term time only and as I am a student I do not need holiday cover. Approx £90pw in term time £140 in non term time.

School Nursery - this would be a different school to the one we hope DS2 will attend. We would need a childminder to drop off/pick up/care for the rest of the day which may mean alot of new faces for him to get to know. Approx £80pw.

Sorry this is long but as it took DS so long to settle in the nursery we are wary of making a mistake.

Thank you!

I may be biased because I work in one but I would go for the pre-school if you like the feel of it. There is no real need for a teacher at that age and without one you know there is always going to be a minimum 1:8 ratio of staff. You will be paying an awful lot more for the nursery as you only need it term time and again the CM fees (and disruption to your DS) at the other school nursery.

Agree completely with OddBoots. The higher staff to child ratio is a massive bonus IMO.

coming late to this but i agree the community preschool sounds best - espcially as can do after school for your DS1. Also my DS went to a new preschool at about 3.5 and found it very easy to settle

Whichever you like the best!

That is and you feel excited, but calm, positive, energised, happy about the cost and can imagine your child there.
