DD was not allocated the preferred school for this Sept '12, we only put down one school, which is the one and only one we wanted her to go to, her brothers went there and it is a small school (100 pupils) she is a not confident child and we started the 'transition' to school by putting her in a nursery school that also uses the main school (the one we want) facilities and all the little ones get to know the teachers, pupils and surrounding before they go...wonderful!...we were not allocated this school and instaed one 3 more miles away, we are going to appeal but if in the horrid instance she does not win appeal, how long can i get nursery paid for by funding before haveing to take her out? ie: can i let her stay at nursery even tho allocated a school place and if so will i still get nursery funding? can anyone help please? x

Free 15hrs is available for all children until their 5th birthday, or the legal time that they must start school. If you look on your LA's admissions it should say when that date is. So I would imagine that you will still get funded place for a few more terms, your nursery will be able to advise.

Just checked, legal school age is the term after their 5th birthday, so if yuor DD is 5 in may her compulsary start date is September. double check with your LA. As I dont know how many intakes per year your schools do, most just do 1 in september now. It may be possible to arrange for your DD to start mid term if a kiddy leaves the school and a place becomes available.

Yes you should be able to get the funding until compulsory school age.

I think I'm right in saying that children still get it if they've started school - it just goes straight to the school. I'm sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong as it's a few years since I had that conversation.

We did it. Different reasons to you, but kept Ds in nursery until Easter, he has just started school. Nursery got the funding. It is your right. Presume you will put her on waiting list at school and cross fingers she gets a place during school year? Is it likely?

Although you should be able to get funding until the end of the summer term, I think that you have to take up the place at the allocated school during the reception term, so if you are wanting to keep that option available the other school will probably expect her to start in the Easter. It might be worth getting on waiting lists for a few other schools too, although your prefered one sounds great, you may have a long wait for someone to leave, not putting all your eggs in one basket iykwim.
