My 4 year keep saying 'me' instead of 'I' or 'I am' 'him' instead of 'he'..

should I be worried. He sometimes is lazy with his pro--nouncication but can repeat them correctly when modelled back to him. But he is still continuously saying 'me do it' or 'him did it' or dropping words out in a sentence. I have been trying to re-model words back to him but he gets frustrated with me. He is understood although now and then he may catch me out but normally because its mis-pronounced something due to forgetting the right name. Sometimes when he talks he does stutter/hesitate as you can see he's trying to think of what to say. Do you think I should be asking for a SALT referral of should just carry on modelling.

Do you think he has picked up on your focus on this and is becoming more anxious and this is making the problem worse?

He is only 4. I would try and lighten up a bit and don't react. Just talk to him normally and as he gets older he will get the hang of it.

English is a very difficult language to learn - there seem to be as many exceptions as there are rules - all children get mixed up at times.

At 3/4 my DS refered to himself as "you" and things were "yours" when he meant mine. It sorted itself out, like everything else I've worried about...

I think the errors you're talking about are very common indeed at this age and it's unlikely you'll get (or need) any SALT referral unless you/his teachers are concerned about other things too

How many grown ups do you hear talking like that - he'll grow out of it!

My daughter used to day "carry you" when she meant "carry me" - because she copied me when I said "Shall I carry you?".

If you talk correctly to your children, they will learn to talk correctly themselves.

ive had children in my class like this and when speech therapy have been involved all theyll do is get you to model the correct version. just make sure if he says it you repeat it back the correct way and not actually point out the mistake.

my ds3 did this and i vaguely remember his reception teacher commenting on it, but he quickly stopped doing it.

my ds4 is just 4 and on the whole gets it right but gets confused about it sometimes, more when i say something is 'yours' meaning its his but he interprets that as me saying its mine as he would say 'its yours'. anyway the english language is def confusing but the do get there, i would just model the right way and he will pick it up :)
